Cebu City Marriage License Requirements

Just to let all of you know, the reason I haven't been able to make any blogs lately was because I was very busy preparing for the thing that would change my life forever - Marriage.

Marriage is a lifetime decision and is something all of you should consider very carefully. However, if you feel that it is God's will for you to get married already then go for it. Anyhow, I decided to make this blog in order to help anyone who might be interested in getting married soon.
The first requirement before getting married is your marriage license. You can go to your Local Civil Registrar (LCR) for more information on the requirements. As for those living in Cebu City, you can go to Cebu City Health Department located at General Maxilom Avenue Extension.

Here are the following requirements we got from Cebu City Health for the marriage license:

1. Certificate of Attendance, issued by the HRD - Office - 1 orig copy & 1 photocopy
2. Birth Certificate (NEW) - 1 orig & 2 photocopy
3. Cedula with signature - 1 orig & 2 photocopy
4. Barangay Clearance - 1 orig and 1 photocopy
5. CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) issued by the NSO - 1 ORIG, and 1 photocopy
6. At least one of the applicants is a resident of Cebu City
7. Valid ID - orig & 2 photocopy

Applicants aging 18-24, you need Parental Advise/Consent to get the licence. This requires the personal appearance of both parents. Also, please have them bring 1 valid ID and 1 photocopy of their ID.

The Certificate of Attendance (Requirement #1) refers to the Pre-Marriage Counseling (Seminar). What you need to do is: (a) Go to City Health, get form from Rm.208 for schedule of Pre-Marriage Counseling. (b) Pay P100 to cashier. (c) Go back to Rm.208, the in charge will give you your PMC Sched. (d) Before the scheduled PMC, you have to go to Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) located at Labangon to get the admission slip. You can't join the Pre-Marriage Counseling without it.

You can get your Birth Certificate and CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) at your LCR, at National Statistics Office (NSO), or online HERE. The prices and releasing time may vary depending on where you would purchase your certificates. I highly suggest going to NSO since it is much cheaper and the time of release is also earlier (Birth Certificate -1 Day, CENOMAR -5 Days) but the downside is you would have to be very patient because of the long line.  If ever you feel like you do not have the time and the patience for long lines, but you have extra resources, then purchase it online since it's hassle free.

Once you have all your requirements checked and submitted, then the waiting begins. There is a 10-day posting time before they release your marriage license. Also, be reminded that it has an expiration date of 120 Days. Once you have claimed the license, you can now get married anywhere you want to. =D

For me, preparing the requirements for marriage is one thing that's best done together with your partner. I know there are several ways to make it more convenient like going online or letting someone else do these things  for you. But for me, from the moment you decided to get married, you should slowly start doing things as if you are now a couple.

May God bless your marriage and I hope this blog helps.
